First XV vs Blackburn Saturday @ 3pm Second XV vs Sandbach Saturday @ 3pm Wasps XV v Driffield Sunday @ 2pm

First to explain the photo of these two smiling young men. Twelve years on both of them playing at Mint Bridge last season and there is a link with this weekends game.

Who are they ? If you cannot recognise them see this weekend’s programme for the answer.

Back to this weekend and the run of tough games continues with one against last season’s third placed team who have run up big scores at Mint Bridge in the past two season’s, but were fortunate to get away with a win at home last season, where our team earned a losing bonus point.

Blackburn currently sit just one place and two point above us, after a heavy defeat at Anselmians on the opening day (still not sure what is going on and if they have “borrowed” players not need by their neighbours – we may find out next weekend !), they bounced back last weekend to defeat Stoke 33v24

TEAM
Not published yet but I am told Alistair Thompson is still away; as now is Devin Coyle, whilst Leo Mercer is at a Wedding, but Joe Anderson is available after attending one last weekend (no consideration these people who get married in the season, when Mint Bridge is not available for the reception !)

WEATHER
The recent warm sunny weather is due to end, but still sunny spells - and NO rain !!!

It's can't last

OTHER GAMES

Birkenhead Park WRossendale
Leek WNewport (Salop)
Manchester W Penrith
Stockport WWirral
Stoke on Trent WAnselmians

Three of the current unbeaten four will be expected to continue but Manchester is a difficult place to go, so Penrith will be very pleased if their perfect start to the season continues with a fourth “W” and bonus point

AT MINT BRIDGE
After no Senior rugby at Mint Bridge last weekend, this weekend there are three games as the Seconds are playing Sandbach, also at Mint Bridge also at 3pm also on Saturday !

Then on Sunday at 2.00pm the Wasps make their long awaited (by me at least !) return to League action.

The visitors are Driffield, who were not seen at Mint Bridge last season, for reasons totally within the control of the club (yes I’m still not happy about it !) but no chance of a freeze this time.

The Wasps travelled there twice last season and won both.

No team news yet. As far as I know there was just one friendly in the build up, which was a trip to Carlisle, where many of the team were missing, but those who came in did well., with a few impressive performances from the First teamers who did play.

Away from Mint Bridge, also at 2pm on Sunday the Senior Colts make the short trip to Carlisle (I will sadly be travelling in the opposite direction) for a Cup match
